Notes and considerations:

  1. BulletYou must carry a leash with you at all times when walking your dog.

  2. BulletKeep your dog on-leash in the parking lot and on sidewalks and until you pass the playground equipment so your dog does not approach children or mark the equipment.

  3. Bullet SoPoDOG organizes trash cleanups in all of the open spaces on the first Saturday of each month. Sign up for an e-mail reminder so you can help.

  4. Bullet Doggie bag dispensers are at most entrances but on busy weekends can be empty. Bring your own bags when you can and an extra bag to share with another dog walker.

  5. BulletPlease remember this is a densely populated area and a public beach where everyone has the right to enjoy the open space. Please be a good neighbor and limit noise such as yelling and excessive dog barking, carry out all trash and keep your dog under voice control or restraint as defined in the city’s code of ordinance.

Willard Beach

Southern Maine Community College abuts the beach. Dogs are not permitted on the playing fields. Along the college waterfront is Spring Point Shoreway with a paved public walkway. Dogs need to be leashed on the walkway. Please see the Spring Point Shoreway page for more information on this walkway.

Watch your dogs closely to keep them on the beach and out of the beach grass and vegetation.

Always pick up after your dog, and bring an extra bag in case someone forgets their bag, or the dispensers are empty.
