Location: Turn onto Clark’s Pond Parkway where it intersects with Westbrook Street - Rt. 9 (The road Home Depot is located on). Home Depot will be on your left, go to the farthest section of the lot, the one that is near Home Depot’s Garden Center. On the right as you enter the lot you will see a low stone wall with an entrance and a post with the name of the trail routed into the wood. To the left is a trail that is paved and accessible to individuals using wheelchairs, walkers, canes, etc. To the right is the “Hiking Trail” and the trail is marked with white trial blazes painted on the trees.
The trail follows along the side of the pond for 1.2 miles one way, and it is NOT A LOOP YET. The exit is across the road from Pape Chevrolet on Westbrook Street (near the Rt. 295 connector). Be careful when coming to the end of the trail as your dog could go out into the parking area.
There are no dog waste bags or trash cans at this park. There are no bathroom facilities at this park.
Open to off-leash dog walking: Year round from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Open to the public: 6 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Notes and considerations:
This is a “West End” park and has been worked on by the South Portland Land Trust, 40 acre park with two ponds in a wooded setting. The park does not have physical boundaries so be careful to keep your dog in your sight at all times.
Toward the “back side” of the park is the South Portland Rt. 1 - Rt. 295/95 connector. PLEASE BE AWARE THIS AREA IS NOT FENCED OFF! Cars go very fast down this connector, so make sure your dog is under reliable voice control if off leash so they do not go across the busy road or leash your dog along this area.
At this time there is quite a bit of broken glass, rusty metal and bottles in the park, some of it right on the trails. Please carefully pick up what you see and realize that if there is glass on the trail, there is most likely more glass off the trail. This could be a hazard for your off leash dog.
There are wild animals in the park. Please be respectful of bird-watchers, people fishing and other people enjoying the park. In some places the trail can be narrow, make sure your dog does not bump into people on the trail.
Part of the hiking trails can be steep and difficult to climb, keep this in mind if bringing children, older dogs or if you have any limitations.
SoPoDOG organizes trash cleanups in all of the open spaces on the first Sunday of each month. Sign up for an e-mail reminder so you can help.
There are NOT doggie bag dispensers at the entrance of the park. There are NOT trash cans at this park. Be prepared to carry home your dog’s waste. It is always a good idea to bring an extra bag to the park to share with another dog walker.
Please remember there are private homes abutting the park as well as busy public roads.
Everyone has the right to enjoy the open space. Please be a good neighbor and limit noise such as yelling and excessive dog barking, carry out all trash and keep your dog under restraint as defined in the city’s code of ordinance.

Remember to bring your own bags and take your trash home. There are no bag dispensers or trash cans here.

The trail borders some busy roads (Rt. 1 - Rt. 295/95 connector) so you may choose to leash your dog. This area is not fenced off from the road.

Be respectful of this open space. This trail system has been created by the South Portland Land Trust as the West End Trails Project providing an open space to recreate in the west end of South Portland.
